Let’s talk about Facebook’s Services Tab for just a sec or four. If you offer services of any kind you want to let everyone know that everywhere you can, right? You talk about them at dinner parties, you Instagram pics of yourself in action, you highlight them on your website and now…you can make them front and center on your Facebook business page. This may not be mind-blowing information but it is another great way to showcase what only you can offer – your services! So why not, right? That’s exactly what I thought. Let’s do it!
Here are the tips and tricks of setting up the Facebook Services Tab:
1. Make Sure You Have/Need The Tab
Are you actually listed as a service? If you are you’ll see the “Services” tab in the left-hand menu bar on your business page. If you aren’t you may need to rethink the category your business is listed under. The services tab can be used by pages listed as:
- Local Businesses
- Companies & Organizations > Consulting/Business Services
- People > Business Person

If none of these are you/your business then you probably don’t need the services tab. You may quit reading this now and move on to the next tasty tidbit of solutions offered on the Read page or get back to living the dream that is entrepreneurship.
2. Configure your Services Tab
If you ARE any of the above listed category types you get to move on to the next step! 👏🏼
Once you have your services tab located and right where it should be, click “Add a Service”…

and this box will pop up:

Here you can enter the name of your service (you get 40 characters), your pricing and a brief description. And I do mean brief – you get exactly 600 characters to describe how fabulous this service is. It’s the elevator pitch of services. Speed dating for services. You get it. Write fast, inspire them quickly.
You can also post a photo of your service or something depicting your service. Be mindful of your branding here. If you’ve already got these things listed on your website and you have imagery there, then use that same imagery here.

3. Hit Save!
Once you’ve entered your service(s) you can either save them and show them or save them and turn off “show service”. If you offer different services at different times of the year, this will come in handy!
Once you hit save, this is where it will appear on your business page “home” page:

Pro Tips!
Pro Tip No. 1:
I messed around trying to get a specific picture to fit in the box just so (and was almost late to yoga) and searching for the photo size for this service box picture everywhere (to no avail)
until I finally figured out (duh) it’s the same size as your profile pic. You will need to make it 160×160 pixels (your profile photo is 180×180 pixels for size, 160×160 pixels for image) to get it to fit just so. There you go!
Pro Tip No. 2:
There is no way to reorder your services once you configure them. They are ordered by how they are entered but backwards (IMO). So the first service you entered is at the bottom of your list and the last service you enter will be at the top. Huh? Anyway – must be some sort of inter-web-coding-snafu-no-time-to-fix-it thingy. But that’s how you gotta work it. Do be mindful of that when you get started and enter what you want to show up first, last.
Pro Tip No. 3:
You do NOT have to enter your pricing – you can use that area as a call to action: contact us for more info, call for pricing, etc.
Unlike the Shop section for business pages, you cannot actually purchase a service from this tab but you can configure the CTA button that sits on your cover photo to say Book Now so it’s readily handy and nearby should they be so inspired. Connect that button to the Book Now or Worth With Me page on your website. Right? Right.
A few final thoughts about the Services tab:
Do I think that Facebook’s Services Tab is going to change your business model and push your fiscal year over the top by several zeros? No sir (mam), I do not. BUT, it’s offered, it’s easy, and it probably will inspire a few more people to inquire about working with you. So why not?
